Looking skyward
daunted by this monumental task,
An uphill journey
my only baggage is courage
packed alongside my fear;
Stepping forward
not looking back
am I breathing?
My heart beating
so loudly
pulsating through me,
Will I conquer
or fall to new heights?
White knuckle grip
on the ragged ledge,
Hanging on by my fingernails
struggling to regain lost footing,
Swallow my inner demons
climb upward,
Higher
over sheer cliffs,
Treacherous terrain
dangerous and dicing
my only thought is survival,
I let go
only for a moment,
wipe a tear
gone astray
turmoil churning my insides,
I free fall like
a newborn baby bird,
I find my wings
and fly.

I thought the building up of the narrative tension was skilfully done. The emotional involvement of the reader is maintained throughout and the pace proves relentless.
Thank you so Louis Kasatkin. It was an emotional journey and I so appreciate your comment, Suzanne
