Thank you for serving God and our Country
If somehow we should make you uncomfortable
Or maybe offend you in any way
By our thoughtless words or actions
Then just let us know and say
We have no way of knowing
Those of us who haven’t been
Where you have gone to serve
And what you have done or seen
So please forgive us for our thoughtlessness
And let us know how you feel
Just remember God will give us another chance
And we wish you would as well
I know there are things
We would not understand
We couldn’t unless we had been there
Where you have served and been
God bless you for your service
And let us understand
All the sacrifices you have made for us
Just to be our normal selves
Freedom is something
You can’t put a price upon
But you have done the things
That God would have done
He gave us his son
To pay for our sins
You gave us your life
To pay for ours
So thank you for your service
To God and man
And forgive us when we offend
The Lord will surely help us to understand
A somewhat solemn, indeed sombre poem handled with commendable skill and efficiency.
Always appreciate your comments. I just realized in talking to a man who had been in the fighting that sometimes we forget what they have gone through and what we say can be a reminder of things they had rather forget.
