On The Road

The road is a wonderful place
Where you see all sorts of things
Must keep between the white lines
Must not sleep, not yet, not yet.

What mile marker am I at?
More miles to go
Nothing to keep me awake
Only the radio.

Its late,
I have to get there on time
No one to talk to on the CB
Only God can hear me now.

So I pray:
Dear God, forgive me for all my sins,
I know sometimes I think evil thoughts
I try not to, but the devil keeps slipping them in.

Dear Lord, don’t let me fall asleep at the wheel,
I don’t want to cause an accident where someone gets killed.
Please get me home safely without incident
And give me Your blessings for the days You have sent.

You are the only King of the road I know
And with me it will always be so
I know You will ride with me wherever I go
I have faith that You will make it so.

About Jan P

I was born and raised and still live in the great state of Oklahoma in the U.S.A. I live in Oklahoma City and have lived her for over 40 years. Came from a small town in eastern Oklahoma. I was raised on a farm as my daddy was a sharecropper. I worked for the Department of Defense for over 30 years. I am now retired and trying to catch up on all the things I didn't get to do when I worked. I have written poetry for many years, but only recently started writing more since I have found a place where others can enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.
