When I was born, I was writhing in pain.
However, I started rotating on my axis
And released life in all forms
Just like a rose releases fragrance.
Nature at her best nurtured myriad
Forms of life, small and big, amphibians,
Carnivores, herbivores,omnivores,
And like an enchantress, I attracted them
To the beauties of life and reasons for existence.
I had the fabulous melon smile
And compassion came to me uncalled.
With time, man failed to realize
That the universe, in all her manifestations
Is alive like a thinking animal.
The lid came off several times to show
The innumerable harm being done to environment.
Man took notice, knew that a progressive
Country needs change and yet,
Little did he think that every action
Is followed by a reaction.
His greed, his mad race, his wars,
Are leading him to his downfall,
And with him nature is degrading.
The icebergs are melting, bees disappearing,
Millions of fish dying on the shores,
The Pacific threatened, the sea level rising,
Landslides, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, cyclones,
Temperatures rising, volcanoes erupting,
To mention but a few.
Is this the reward that my children
Will give to me when I am supplying all to them?
I am smiling forlornly
With a sadness incomprehensible.
In a faint voice, I am saying day and night,
Wake up my children.
This is my story and reading it,
Let your tears join mine
To give a little solace
To my weakened soul.
