My Sister

This poem is dedicated to my sister Vicki who was so much a part of me and whose memory will be with me always. All she ever wanted was to be loved.

I had a sister who was like my twin
She was older than I way back then
We were closer than anyone knew
We stuck together just like glue.

Whatever we did we did together
Before we spoke, the other would answer.
Our hearts were as close as one
Together we could not be outdone.

I loved her then, and I love her now
I loved her as much as God would allow.
Though she’s been gone for a long time,
She will be here with me til the end of time.

How can you ever forget
One you loved with no regret?
How can you ever thank God for that kind of love?
The kind He sends you from up above.

He gives you what He knows you need
Then sends you out to sow his seed
Sometimes He throws in a love so huge
That it gives you all refuge.

He will give you someone in your life
That makes up for all your strife.
That’s like my sis and me
Though we didn’t always agree.

I missed her then and I miss her now
I miss her as much as the Lord will allow
He knows that I loved him more
But her He did let me adore.

About Jan P

I was born and raised and still live in the great state of Oklahoma in the U.S.A. I live in Oklahoma City and have lived her for over 40 years. Came from a small town in eastern Oklahoma. I was raised on a farm as my daddy was a sharecropper. I worked for the Department of Defense for over 30 years. I am now retired and trying to catch up on all the things I didn't get to do when I worked. I have written poetry for many years, but only recently started writing more since I have found a place where others can enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

Thank you. She will never leave my heart. We are stuck like glue. Can’t wait to see her again.
