Winds blowing wild
swirling in the porch
raising whorls of sand
loud rumbling in the backyard
trees swaying swoosh
getting disrobed and raped
leaves flying like murmuration,
flashlight on my window sill
the burly guard patrolling
Me alone in my mansion
crouched in my bed
fighting the chill
with blanket over my head
and heater in the corner
nightmares looming low
over my eyebrows high
my imagination running wild
with horror movies seen
and books by the bedside
won’t let a wink in
heart racing, also stopping at times
clouds roaring across the skies,
the fireplace downstairs
now losing its radiant heat
guard still flashing his light
on my window sill,
it was just one night
but moments so many
when I panicked and crouched
from dancing shadows on the walls
eyes closed tight
full of fear and flight,
I probably slept
for moments few
when it dawned and the lawn
was covered in dew,
ringing the breakfast bell
mom shooed away the hell,
she was back……
eerie spooky sounds
no more around,
morning was bright
mom hugged me tight
yes she was right
I was still a kid
to face a night……

An enjoyably energetic foray into the vicissitudes of childhood.A fine piece deftly wrought with the Author’s customary aplomb.
Thank you dear Louis
An apt tale for Halloween.
Thank you Amita madam.
A nice and lyrical poem so picturesque in its description of a child’s fears during night and aptly written during this time of Halloween.
Thank you Brindha madam for your comment
The poem directly conveys the warmth and security of maternal love when fury of Nature dances all around.
Thank you for feeling my sentiments
