Ghost Apples

Ghost Fruits
Of the Wintering Tree
Ice Shells
Coldly cupping
The aching emptiness
Of Ghost Limbs
Sweetness lost in rot
Futile longing
Of Physical Memory
Hard wired in the mush
Of emotions
Clouding rationality
Cruel appearances
Chilling forms
Without a Heart
Wooing the eyes
Cheating the tongue
Hollowing out
The Soul .
The Anguish of the Marrow
The Ague of the Skeleton
The Possession of Death .

( Amita Sarjit Ahluwalia )

( Ghost Apples are created when freezing rain coats rotting apples, and when the mushy rotten apple falls out, it leaves a shell of ice. 😮🍎❄👻 )

Metaphoric and rich in implied imagery. The reality of death lurking all around brought out wonderfully well.
