The warm wind
With its hot breath,
Rising from the east
This early morning,
Reminds me of you,
And of
Your tight embrace,
That scented my being
So well,
Your breath tingling
My skin and reviving me,
After a long day’s
Honest, hard work;
The daily hug that
Dissolved many
An iceberg
Within and
And the sweat
That lingered in,
Long afterwards,
Like the rich taste,
Of the dark brew that was drunk
Slowly, patiently,
In the pricey Starbucks
In South Mumbai,
An outlet,
Where we went
To show
We were
Also quite different,
From those who drank
The filtered coffee
In white cups,
Some chipped,
In nearby
Indian coffee joints,
That served
The hot concoction
And the bonhomie
Together by the
Bored servers,
On lethargic afternoons,
When it rained heavily
And I would be reminded
Of Hemingway in
Occupied Paris
Or, in Havana,
Do not know why,
And we would talk of revolution
No, not in Arab world,
But, in the world of
Branded fashion,
You and I,
While stirring coffee spoons,
In cups with the
Dwindling coffee,
You tossing your auburn hair
Casually, eyebrows arched,
And right plump hand
Fiddling the sunshades,
Talking of change,
While I thought of your
Tight embrace that
Reminded me of
Strangely again,
Of the burning
Saharan Deseret,
A fake Gauguin
Stuck on the
Stucco restaurant- wall.
