Under a backpack of qualms
my smile bends double
Is it an abandoned fort that I let myself into
searching for some arrows to refill my quiver
or is love echoing somewhere near
displacing the vacuum of a bleak passage?
I do not know how
but if I could burst these thought bubbles
that float with ease just above reach
they would perhaps drip down
as cool rain on my lips
My past can feed on its iniquities
or crawl into its open grave
I lived there once but no longer do I give
piggy rides to wrung out memories
I cannot paint my masterpiece
till I tear my hands free
and erase the smudges of regrets
that emboss leafless shadows on my tree
though I do long to breathe in
the sweetest breeze of new life
much like the petal-lashes of a drooping garden
waiting to flutter in a zephyr of its own spring.
