Bargain

I have salvaged some of this night
For tomorrow
Time is so rigid in how it flows
To our sorrow
From here and there a few moments
We borrow
But in the main the sweep of death
Is thorough

Miser Fate, you give us little , take away
Much more
And yet we wonder what is still
In store
Sometimes in helplessness
Even implore
But by and large our pleas the gods
Ignore

And we are here as on a darkling
Plain
With no one even caring to
Explain
Where lies our actual loss and where
Our gain
Life ends bartered for death , bitter
Bargain

An excellent, evocative, philosophical poem, full of insights, and availing of personification and rhyme.
