Where are we going?

The feathers of our world are lacerated

And the unblinking moon

Is quietly shedding tears of sorrow.

A spine-chilling eeriness is being felt.

In the Antarctic where a crack in the ice in the ice shelf

Just grew by eleven miles, a break could be imminent.

We no longer are a progressive country

That leads change, we are breaking

Into pieces like bright shards of glass.

We are degenarating, failing in life and its travails.

Just think about the United States where last year

There occurred nineteen separate flood events,

In a single year since records began in 1980.

In total there were ninety-one weather

Climate or geological disasters including

Severe storms, hurricanes, wild fires, earthquakes,

Heat waves and droughts causing so much misery.

We still remember Costa Rica’s Turrialba

Spectacular eruption last october.

The heavy rains have battered in Thailand’s

Flood-ravaged South bringing death of twelve people

And thousands of villages were submerged.

Our needs and our growing greed

Is so uncontrollable.

We are not stopping for a while to think

About the repercussions it may have on Nature.

Twenty-four cities in China are on red pollution alert

And twenty-one on orange.

What are we doing to the quality of our air?

Our soil, water, food and all are contaminated

To some degree and we are still smiling in glee

While the sea is rumbling and grumbling.

Is there anybody who cares?

And on top of all, look at the devastating effects of Corona.

Together, let us create that much needed awareness

Before it is too late.

A series of practical reflections aimed at raising ecological awareness at a very prosaic , down to earth and practical level with an exhortatory ending .

Indeed much awareness is needed now more than ever… your poem reflects much of our heedlessness dear poet!
