When I was young…there was a war
I can go back in time…find more than one war
You spilled blood all over…covered the soil in tar
Was it to protect…protect your golden bar?
You just sat there…smoking your damn cigar
The lies spoken so easily…soldier and President…the true lie
I think I will never forget the massacre at My Lai
Innocent people shot down…a war oh no…but a lot die
So speak to me now…what is your true face behind the dye?
Say something to make me believe again
Tell me it is not so…life so easily down the drain
Why commit this crime…this sin
You have your conscience…but let it follow orders from insane
When I was young…there were this war
Believing you was a true lie
As you killed women and children in My Lai
To all you stand for…I truly say goodbye
It’s a struggle to excuse you…I say if I may
The lies spoken so easily…soldier and President…the true lie
I think I will never forget the massacre at My Lai
Innocent people shot down…a war oh no…but a lot die
So speak to me now…what is your true face behind the dye?
When and as long as I am alive…there is this war
The never ending healing of a scar
You drive in your shiny car
You live and you breed from this war
All this to cover your country in tar
An Anti War anthem strongly reminiscent of those classic Protest songs of the 1960’s. In every sense this work ,hard edged and caustic ,is a true Jeremiad.
I have some freinds from Vietnam and one of them told me this horrible storie. In marts 1968 US-troops attact a small Village in Southvietnam and gunned Down 507 men, women and children in Cold blood.
This is his Words converted by me and put as an Anti War protest song….so some form of lyric and reminiscent to protestsongs from the 1960’s is truly there…..in some sense it is Nahn story, told by me.
