This Independence Day

Another milestone year,
Soaked in lot of tears.
Few that of happiness,
Lot filled with sighs,
A look at starving children
And eyes filled with “whys?”
I am a proud citizen too,
Geared to celebrate tomorrow,
But a look at those stretched hands
And empty haunted mocking eyes,
A corner in my heart,
Will remain drenched in sorrow.
