Across flew a sparrow
his tail stiff in flight
his shadow fell upon the earth
and tear drops large as ice.
Cursed me he cried as he fled
that lived to see this day
where men don’t know
from young and old
and rapes a child of five.
Cursed the earth upon
where the blood flows
in raging trail
cursed land skies that weep
non stop
and rains refuse to fall!
Cursed land that sees no wrong
and continues to reign
cursed be the manhood that
takes by force what it can
and holds it head so high.
The swallow sang in sorrowful chirps
and down upon earth fell
Such sorrow that his tiny heart
could find joy, only when laid to rest.
I picked it up
its tiny body in the grave to lay
and sighed and wept
at the land cursed
with wisdom no where to find.
A very powerful and moving indictment of yet another outrage reported upon in the media ,that ” The Swallow’s tale ” refers to at the end of the second stanza.
