The gypsy spell

I caught the fire in my eyes once
when the burning coal
was my floor dance
My partner, the spine straightener bear
carrying a big chain around his neck used to stare into the night
sniffing the scent of freedom

And with a swirl I steal your heart
and with a bracelet jingle I vanish from your sight

The tent I build under the stars
our shelter against all fears
the wind, my friend, tells me
the stories I will find in the palms
of fortune seekers
tomorrow

And with a swirl I steal your heart
and with a bracelet jingle I vanish from your sight

my eyes who caught the fire in their stare
the thunder locked in their tear
my feet who rounded twice the earth
my skirts teared apart in endless, despaired dances
All that
defines my gypsy passing through the world
All that
makes me the owner of the wind and fire

And with a swirl I steal your heart
and with a bracelet jingle I vanish from your sight

you’ll never know what freedom really means
by now, a slave you are
forever dreaming of my eyes
