Tonight let me be alone,
Tonight let me hide within.
Vines weave me a nest,
Birds sing me a song,
Resting in wild static,
Peace of silent music.
Tonight sooth the restless,
Tonight heal a soul unwell.
Streams tell me a story,
Trees murmur all secrets,
Old reams of fond memories,
Come alive in lucid dreams.
Tonight give me my tropics,
In this tired, cold, drafty day.
Tonight bring in the familiar,
The rustic, the homely sleep.
In my south-west long room,
It’s windows open to moon.
Tonight soak me humid warm,
Silver of night, breathe me in.
Tonight no worry of neon lights,
Dark palm silhouettes usher in.
Temples sing the dinner hymns,
Western sea wind put me to bed.
Tonight take me where I belong,
Where love hung close, damp.
Tonight let me in those attic rooms,
Lingering in yesterday’s garlands,
Offerings, germinating hopes,
Where a lone lamp still burns.
Tonight let me be alone,
Tonight let me hide within.
