Lord there are some sounds
That go right to the heart,
Like the sound of a train whistle
Blowing through the dark.
When everything is quite,
And you hear a lonesome dove,
And in your heart you know
You are listening from above.
The sound of the coyote pack
Lets you know again
That death is close for something.
It will be their end.
Traffic flowing down the road
Makes you think of tomorrow;
And you know within your heart
It could be filled with sorrow!
Sounds of the crickets
On a really dark night
Somehow lets you know
Everything’s gonna be all right.
The occasional barking of a neighbor’s dog
Lets you know they are other people about.
Guess you could talk
If you wanted to give them a shout.
What I really like to do in the silence of the night
Is talk to you while everything is quite.
I can hear you answer me then
Not like in the day when things get in the way.
Well-crafted, meditative ,melodic . The poem’s cadences and rythms would make it ideal for live performance.
