Rising Star

Rising Star

Unknown to us
the leafless trees and beyond
facing battles,

one eyed bird
sharing stories far into the night
with a shrewdness,

find it hard to look in the mirror,
our own demons
poverty, hunger, wound-

everything here is bleary and frosted
we own very little, we possess nothing
our regrets,

a lot of dark clouds in eyes
and salt water in tears
not quite get us down-

until you and me
get an answer in the rising star
to know each other inside.
