Passing Solitude

Let us walk on the spreading green
Holding hands in our trials and tender moments,
We will open our heart and soul to
the Surrounding green music, smile a smile, …
Empty our sadness to the tall trees and green leaves
Deep down, the tales of pain and grief,
Look at each other’s eye in details like a multiple scanner
 Cry inconsolably in passing solitude
Let it open before parting
Images flip back and forth in a tearing hurry
Like springs flow into a rampaging cascade,
Slender filaments of anger, the missing milestone
Unfold torn pages one by one before mind’s eye,
The sheer facts offer a piercing look,
Chasing caterpillars and butterfly unmindfully,
At the end we will play soul, not characters.

Mimesis is the Classic Greek from whence we derive the term , ” mimic ” ; Art it is said , mimics or imitates Life. ” Passing Solitude ” ,addresses this complex dialectic relationship and explores it with consummate brevity. Strong lines such as , “images flip back and forth in a tearing hurry ” and , ” At the end we will play soul , not characters ” intimate a cinematic narrative where we see the central character experiencing a ” flashback ” interlude. Itself a work of fiction and the product of artifice but nevertheless , ” mimicking ” real life and our own experience ,just like this poem.

I read the poem several times, and the more I read the more I was confronted- with “The sheer facts” as Mr Gopal Lahiri would like us to believe. The only escape route that he has provided us, albeit at the tail end is an enigmatic “see more”, that perhaps declares- more to follow !
