I never thought to have a son
Until my daughter married one.
You are the apple of my eye
And the stars in my sky.
God bless the day she found you
You have blessed my life anew.
You have given me something I never had
A son who loves me and his dad.
For all the things you are to me
You love me unconditionally.
Your heart is as big as the great outdoors
Its like the tide against the seashores.
I’m glad I didn’t have to raise you
I wouldn’t have had a clue
Your parents did a really fine job
And as my son you make my heart throb.
You have given me pleasure just knowing you
You make me happy when I am blue.
Your love for family doesn’t come cheap
But I know for sure that it is deep.
I know for sure you are my son
Because God finally sent me one.
My daughter is a lucky woman
And you are a really lucky man.
Our family is complete
With one I never expected to meet.
Congratulations on this day
You have come to stay.
So my son if life is tough
And sometimes treats you rough
We are here for you to count on
We’ll be in your life from now on.
We love you. Dad and Mom Phillips
I liked the ending especially the last two lines. On the whole, a fluent and elegant poem.
