Me and The Devil

( By Jan Phillips )

The Devil he’s a goner and he knows that he can’t win
But he just keeps a knockin wanting me to let him in.
Jesus is my Savior and he helps me guard the door
He want let ole satan set foot upon the floor.
Sometimes I have been tempted just to see if he could do
Any of the things he promises to you.
But then I still want let him in
Because I refuse to live within his sin.
I don’t want to burn in hell for all eternity
I want my Jesus to be where my eyes may see.
Satan, he tries to tempt me in various different ways
But it hardly ever works cause I still give God the praise.
My soul belongs to God you see as does my heart and mind
But he lets me backslide and sin sometimes I find.
That’s when the devil is always there like a hungry wolf at the door
But if he is so hungry he can go buy food from the store.
Satan wants to tempt me with things of the earth
But the cost of my soul is not what things are worth.
God now has my soul in his hands you see
Because He gave up his very life for me.

About Jan P

I was born and raised and still live in the great state of Oklahoma in the U.S.A. I live in Oklahoma City and have lived her for over 40 years. Came from a small town in eastern Oklahoma. I was raised on a farm as my daddy was a sharecropper. I worked for the Department of Defense for over 30 years. I am now retired and trying to catch up on all the things I didn't get to do when I worked. I have written poetry for many years, but only recently started writing more since I have found a place where others can enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.
