Losing you

Locked hands loosened
Your shadow faded in a distance
The first step into a new boat
And woes caught hold of me.
Neither the dazzling moonlight
Nor the blissful breeze
Could shudder my dim and sombre self.
Somewhere in the smooth voyage
The wind altered its spirit
To wobble me and my world
Your shadow flickered on the shore
I couldn’t beg for your arms
For it was I who closed the doors of heart.

About Fathima Manal

Dreams, fantasies, words and rhythm-other than skin, bones and muscles I am made up of these. With every drop of blood that my heart pumps,a new dream forms in me.With every breathe,i take the surroundings too inside me.And my poems are just the minute regurgitants of what i accumulate within. I am a doctor from Kerala,India, who should not be supposed to but is in deeply love with words and books more than medical books.Hope you enjoy my poems......

Poetry is indeed like love.there are millions of beloveds in the world, but it is only the unique one that exists for her lover at the critical time.if she is told that love is an illusion, she simply laughs at the remark.nothing can prove to her the falsity of what she directly apprehends. Even if it is an illusion,a dream,is not her dream better than the awakening?

The same i felt after reading this poem.a poem loses its charm if analysed minutely. .poetry is not understood, but felt.

The poet, here, again seems to be in some paradoxical dilemma. .and that produces real beauty. . .to show human passions pulling in antipodal ways. . .it is a beautiful lyric showing a tug of war between the poet’s love for someone and some unknown responsibility. .she longs for the boat that has sailed off,but she could not have averted the situation anyway. . . . .she opted for the emotional suicide!

It reminds me of Robert Frost’s immortal lines:

” woods are lovely, dark and deep/ but i have promises to keep.”
