Long and short

once a long walk, now
time stuck in reverse
make it a short cut

back across the field
there is no such langour here
tides go in and out

it’s just an image
a bit of yellow and white
my words don’t speak out.

they are smooth, not rough
they resemble nothing else
hanging from the stem

in a turn of thought
tears fall in a placid lake
frozen in cold wind
