Just Busy

JUST BUSY

@ Geetha Ravindran

The red numbers of my calendar
Always keep laughing at me
Allure me
Come near, come near
Prompt me

Ho! But no, not yet finished
To be at your arms
Duties… lots and lots of them, undone
Nag me, drag me
Drain me drop by drop
Taint me tint by tint
We’re to be cared of
They snatch every bit of me

And at the end as you turn up
Dear holiday,
No holidaying left for me
Look, I am intoxicated
Indeed
A real workaholic!

This poem focuses on an unusual subject , work versus leisure , and how holidays lose meaning for a workaholic. It reminds one of WH Davies’ famous poem , ‘ Leisure ‘.
