I’ve looked for you,
since creation was being conceptualised
and bare-bodied souls
lay
inert, each like a corpse
in an ancient, cosmic cauldron,
waiting for young clouds to caress
and twinkling stars to moisten them.
I’ve tried reaching out to you,
tiny tentacles,
rivers of smoke,
flowing from a fiery soul
zigzag-ing through cosmos
to find their way,
traversing barren heaths
that seemed to belong nowhere.
I hear your voice today,
a song,
a touch that haunts me
in the midst of screeching tyres
and life rushing by.
I wake up,
rise and hold your outstretched hand.
Will you show me the way?
An exquisitely constructed poetic narrative. My impression is that it might very well be “of a piece”,either a prequel or sequel connected to your most immediately preceding work which has a strikingly similar creative DNA,” Can you show me the way”. On a minor point, and it is no more than subjective, is in this instance the final line -“will you show me the way”-taking a little off of the cutting edge?
Many thanks Mr. Kasatkin for your appreciation. The two poems, Can you show… and Guide were written almost back to back, on two consecutive days. In the second poem I’ve suggested the self’s realization, of the possibility of the presence of a guiding light, an answer perhaps to the self’s search for a way to salvation, or rather inner peace. Hence, the the question “Can you show me the way” becomes here “Will you show me the way.”
Thanks again.
Madhumita- Yet another rivetting poem. I am in search of guiding light as always and your poem has braught out the nuances so eloquently..
Beautiful write.
Gopal Lahiri Rahul Aithal… Thank you so much. Happy you liked the poem.
I love the beauty of the sharply contrasting sound images ….. traversing barren heaths
that seemed to belong nowhere.
I hear your voice today,
a song,
a touch that haunts me
in the midst of screeching tyres
and life rushing by.
