Growing Up Today

I woke up this morning
You gave me one more day,
To be in your service
I don’t know what to say.

You give me your love
In various different ways,
Sometimes I fail you
But your love always stays.

Not many people in our world
Stay off drugs and alcohol,
Not many can pass a drug test
That pretty much says it all.

When I look at the young ones
Who are growing up this way,
It scares me to think
They’re gonna be in charge someday.

Your love will sustain me
No matter what takes place,
So many of the young ones
Really need Your grace.

So Lord I’m asking you
To help them more than me,
Because I know you very well
And they really need to see.

It’s not like I am perfect
Not in the very least,
But I’m afraid a lot of them
Don’t know you exist.

Please show them who you are Lord
So they may know your peace,
And give them help God
So they can have your release.

About Jan P

I was born and raised and still live in the great state of Oklahoma in the U.S.A. I live in Oklahoma City and have lived her for over 40 years. Came from a small town in eastern Oklahoma. I was raised on a farm as my daddy was a sharecropper. I worked for the Department of Defense for over 30 years. I am now retired and trying to catch up on all the things I didn't get to do when I worked. I have written poetry for many years, but only recently started writing more since I have found a place where others can enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.
