et ad pulverem…

deserted liberey

The room had not known voices
since the horseman first appeared,
and the olive trees
were scattered by the storm.
Shuttered windows,
paint flakes thumbling,
siege door –
locked without a key.
Inside the dust of crumbling books,
with dogeared pages;
leave the only trace of me.

    In a manner reminiscent of Walter de la Mare, Fingleton is a master in the art of creating an appropriate ambience for his semi-mythical characters to emerge through the pages of history. Excellent !
