Death Personified

Almost like a shadow I do not remember when
You began to walk with me ,move with my pen
Soon you became a part of every breath
I have never feared you , my friend Death .

In the bodies I see burning on the Ganga Ghats
Where I live , I see my own self in different parts
I have seen my mother’s pyre in your embrace
Death , I have seen you as life’s final grace

I see disease as your messenger sent ahead
And old age too , warnings , nothing to dread
You are and have been always the known end
So I prepare to welcome you , Death my friend

I see you as the usher into a new dimension
I see you as an enhancer of my comprehension
Good things do in the end come out of Nazareth
I am happy to trust you , my good friend , Death

    Optimistic in the tough times.
    Quoting Donne:
“Death, be not proud, though some have called thee”
    Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think’st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.

The piece displays great courage and strength of the poet’s mind through a rhetorical chit chat with death. Brilliantly done.
