I so much wish somebody could build
A life size replica of the poetess Padmaja Iyengar.
Our children and our children’s children
Would look at her mesmerized,
The way we look at her and feel her
In each and every cell of our body.
I love the way she walks with noble strides,
Catching the attention of all, so simple
And yet, so fabulous reflecting the wisdom
Of ancient women who were so careful
Both in their thoughts and actions.
Her ink is magnanimous, flowing with the grace
Of the majestic Nile, always giving and forgiving.
Her works of great luminosity clearly show
The times we are living in and what we can do
To create that world which will be
The fruit of a multi-cultural commitment.
Known as Paddy, exuberant like the paddy fields,
She widens our horizon beautifully by
Her beautiful mind and humanistic integrity.
Paddy, we all love you.
Without you, our world would be so colorless
For, you add colors to the rainbows of our lives.
