The Funeral

The song that floats in,
The murmurs that trickle in,
The sighs of letting go ~
Are all tear-stained elegies…

There’s a funeral taking place
In the dark red chambers
Of my little heart…

The funeral of a question
That I was dying to ask you;

“What was it, dear?” you ask now.

It’s no more, sweetheart…
Let’s mourn for the undiscovered;

The intangible coffin is lifted
Gently by tangible repressions
Of bygone needs…

The calls that echo and die,
The songs that miss a line,
The tears that do not fall ~
Are all rituals in the funeral…

    In her latest post,” The Funeral ” the author addresses the subject matter adroitly and serves up a relationship poem which may be likened to a velvet glove ,albeit one concealing an iron fist.
    Style,panache and concision are all,as expected ,in evidence; what the Reader anticipates is the utilisation of these qualities to address perhaps more expansive and challenging subjects.

    It’s a surprise to myself that I missed your comments on this poem including the ICOP listing. Apologies for the delay but thank you so much! And humbled by the honour again. 🙂
